IOSA Key Messages (PDF 2.5MB)

IOSA is the voice of an alliance of emerging in situ oil sands developers. We are a vibrant, sustainable and forward-thinking group of oil sands companies. Our goal is to manage the responsible development of an industry we can be proud of.

Leading through innovation

IOSA members use creativity and expertise to advance technology forward in the oil sands. This kind of innovation reduces our environmental impact, improves efficiency and lowers costs. We attract some of the best and brightest talent the oil sands industry has to offer to develop these new techniques, strengthening Alberta’s ability to continue to be a world leader in oil sands recovery.

With more than 80 percent of the province’s bitumen resources accessible only through the use of in situ techniques, IOSA members are dedicated to investing in new technologies and innovations to reduce operating and capital costs and also protect the environment.

In situ production is the key to unlocking the future potential of Canada's oil sands.

Premier Ed Stelmach’s effort to polish the image of the oilsands among those U.S. politicians critical of mining operations is receiving praise from former Alberta premier Peter Lougheed.

Glen Schmidt was named one of Alberta's 50 Most Influential People by Alberta Venture Magazine.

Pat Nelson joined Rutherford on AM770 to discuss the PR problem currently surrounding the oil sands.

John Hofmeister, the former president of Shell Oil, describes in his book the lamentable inability of the industry to get its message out to a public. Pat Nelson, vice chair of IOSA, agrees.
