Glen Schmidt and Chris Bloomer help lead the In Situ Oil Sands Alliance forward

"When people think about the oilsands it’s a monolith, and it isn’t," says Glen Schmidt, president and chief executive officer of Laricina Energy, and chairman of the In Situ Oil Sands Alliance (IOSA). Rather, he says the industry is comprised of different sectors: mining is a sector, upgrading is a sector, in situ development is a sector, and so on. The story that he, Petrobank Energy and Resources senior vice-president and chief operating officer Chris Bloomer, and the other members of IOSA want to get out is that 80 per cent of oilsands production is going to be much like the conventional oil and gas operations the public is used to—development that also becomes more environmentally benign and efficient as technology advances, and contributes to community sustainability...
