In situ projects have a surface footprint similar to conventional oil and gas operations. IOSA’s members are not only improving the efficiency of existing in situ technologies but are also developing new techniques that will make our environmental footprint even smaller.

The innovations we are testing in the field now will go a considerable distance towards reducing the energy intensity of our bitumen recovery processes. In fact one of our goals is a carbon footprint that is equal to or less than many conventional oil projects.

Premier Ed Stelmach’s effort to polish the image of the oilsands among those U.S. politicians critical of mining operations is receiving praise from former Alberta premier Peter Lougheed.
